How ssp can prevent burnout

To protect the privacy of our clients, we sometimes post information that is not traceable. Below is a mother's wonderful story and the result of working with the Focus system (ILS).

The emergence of tic and compulsive complaints

Our story actually began over 10 years ago, at his birth. My little guy hardly slept during the day and was extremely fast in his development. At first you thought "wow, my child is brilliant" and he is, but everything has a side. When he was 3.5 years old he had his first panic attack due to the compulsive thought that he had to put his head under water while bathing. This compulsion thought became so strong that he could no longer hold it back and after repeatedly putting his little head under water, I had to pull him out of the bathtub completely in a panic.

My little beautiful guy was 3.5 years old and the compulsion was so intense that this was the first time he expressed that he did not want to live this way. 3.5 years old. The second time he said this, he was 7 years old and this happened at his second major escalation, after the first lockdowns of the corona time perk and during a vacation in Belgium. Now he also had tics. He made soft oe-ing noises all the time, his lower jaw was drawn up and his tongue hung out of his mouth. The compulsion had evolved into anything to do with eating and drinking, so he stopped that completely. This put him into crisis care, which really couldn't do anything for him other than medication. The message was that if he still had compulsive symptoms by age 9 he would grow old with it.

The search for a solution

This was unacceptable to me as a mother and the search began. Since then every summer has been tough and he had periods of not eating or drinking and many compulsive symptoms accompanied by tics. Then we discovered the Focus system, the theory seemed logical, but the claimed results you could achieve with this treatment we viewed with skepticism. But since we had nothing else at hand and this was precisely a treatment with which we could actually get started, we grabbed it with both hands. If the quality of life could improve even slightly for him, I would give anything.

Going through the first phase of the Focus System

In September of 2022, we started the first round of the Focus system and have now gone through it twice. His teacher had mentioned several times during the year that the changes in the classroom were great and that she wondered what kind of treatment we were doing.

The impossible vacation

But today we got in the car for a vacation in France. Over the past year, all of his fears, compulsions and tics have become less and less. In fact, he felt so good that he came up with the request to go on vacation. Nothing was more important to him than proving to himself that he could go on vacation just like all the other kids.

The best day of my life

Today was the best day of my life as a mother, not only did we travel to France, but the trip was fantastic! My beautiful, now almost 11-year-old son, is complaints free of all the anxiety and compulsions he used to have. He came to me and said, "Mommy, I can do it, I can go on vacation." The trauma of the summer of 2019 was so intense for him that he himself did not expect that he would still be able to go on vacation and not suffer from compulsions or tics.

We have been working with the Focus system and doing the exercises every day since last September. Sometimes with pleasure and moments of connection and sometimes reluctantly, but he has worked extremely hard. The result we have achieved together is beyond all expectations and we are not even finished, we are even just at the beginning. There is so much more to achieve and I am so looking forward to each day we will face together.
