Finally again
coming home to your body.
The Rest and Restore Protocol is a clinical listening therapy that gives your nervous system the safety to recover in deeper layers. Not imposed from without - but enabled from within.
Not thinking about rest -
but countries at rest.
For decades, healthcare was all about changing minds: if only you were different thinks, the feeling follows naturally. But for many people, that doesn't work. Not because they don't want to, but because a chronically dysregulated nervous system gets in the way of cognitive processing. The thoughts are there, but the body doesn't follow.
The Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP), developed by neuroscientist Dr. Stephen Porges and audio innovator Anthony Gorry, takes a different approach. It works bottom-up: anchor safety first in the body, so that the higher brain functions - concentration, connection, emotion regulation - can function optimally again.
The RRP is a passive, clinical listening intervention. You listen to specially constructed music through ordinary headphones - lying down, at rest, with your eyes closed. You don't have to do anything. Your nervous system does the work.
“Clients regularly describe the effect as ‘magical’ - as if they are physiologically transported back to the safety and security of childhood. This is scientifically explainable: the acoustic algorithms resonate with pre-verbal, primitive brainstem networks.”

Signs of an overloaded nervous system
The nervous system does not speak words. It speaks through the body. Do you (or your child) recognize one or more of the following patterns?
Chronic fatigue that does not disappear with rest or sleep
Sleep problems: not being able to fall asleep or waking up restlessly
Gastrointestinal symptoms that worsen with stress (PDS, abdominal pain)
A feeling of emotional numbness or ‘not being present’
Quickly overstimulated by noises, light or crowds in the environment
Chronic muscle tension, headaches or pain with no apparent cause
Burnout symptoms that do not recover through ordinary rest or therapy
Feeling stuck - even though you cognitively know ‘what to do’
Anxiety, panic attacks or chronic restlessness with no apparent cause
Difficulty connecting socially, even when you actually want to
Feeling your body as unsafe from within
Unexplained complaints for which regular care has no answer
These are neither character flaws nor lack of willpower. They are signals from a nervous system stuck in a survival mode. The RRP provides a direct, physiological gateway to recovery.
Perhaps this is a good time to start.

How does the Rest and Restore Protocol work?
The RRP is not a relaxation app. It is a clinically-grade musical intervention, rooted in neurobiology and the Polyvagal Theory of Dr. Stephen Porges.
Rhythmic Entrainment
Sonocea® technology translates medical research on heart rate variability and breathing rhythms into acoustic algorithms. The music functions like an internal pacemaker: your nervous system synchronizes along with the soothing rhythms.
Internal Co-regulation
The RRP focuses on the organs under the diaphragm: the digestive system, the kidneys, the gut-brain axis. It restores communication between brain and viscera - internal co-regulation at the organ level.
Neuroplasticity
Rhythmic auditory stimulation induces parasympathetic security, causing the amygdala to deactivate. In this state, the brain is given the space to deconstruct oppressive neural pathways and make new, healthy connections.
Pre-verbal Trauma Recovery
The deep, slow acoustic algorithms resonate with the sounds a fetus experiences in the womb. This allows the nervous system to integrate as yet unprocessed primitive reflexes and pre-verbal fears - even without words.
Results from research
A pilot study with 110 participants shows remarkable improvements: 76% reported better sleep, 93% fewer anxiety symptoms, 88% reduction in trauma symptoms and 82% fewer depressive symptoms. In addition, improvements in bowel function were also reported.
Custom dosage
After the written intake, we tailor the listening plan to your situation. For the first ten sessions, we often work with microdosing - building up slowly, your nervous system sets the pace. After that, you can listen to the RRP daily: 10 to 20 minutes a day.
Your nervous system has three modes
Dr. Porges' Polyvagal Theory describes how the autonomic nervous system has three hierarchical circuits. A healthy system moves smoothly between these states. With chronic stress or trauma, this system becomes stalled. The RRP restores this mobility.
Security & connection
This is the most evolutionarily recent state, unique to mammals.
When active: feelings of calm, security and social connection.
Heart rate drops, breathing deepens, immune system functions optimally.
Learning, creativity and co-regulation are possible.
This is the goal of the RRP: to return to this state as home.
Mobilization & survival
When the nervous system detects danger, this system kicks in: adrenaline, increased heart rate, muscles ready for action. In modern society, where physical flight is often impossible, chronic activation results in anxiety, sleep problems and muscle tension.
Shutdown & freeze
The oldest survival circuit: when a threat is perceived as inevitable, the body initiates a physiological shutdown. Chronically stuck, this leads to severe fatigue (ME/CFS), burnout, intestinal complaints and feelings of apathy or emotional numbness.
“The RRP acts directly on neuroception - the unconscious radar of your nervous system. Through acoustic signals that the brainstem recognizes as fundamentally safe, the defensive systems are shut down. Without having to think about it.”
The nervous system knows no age limits
The RRP has been used with adults, children (18 months and older) and seniors. The approach - the listening schedule, the dosage, the guidance - is completely tailored to the physiological and personal situation.
From survival to life
Adults in modern society tend to live in a chronic state of performance and stress. They have developed strong cognitive defense mechanisms over the years: they try to ‘think away’ their physiological symptoms rationally "think away. That works - until it doesn't.
Dr. Porges calls the RRP ‘stealth meditation. It bypasses the overactive , rational cortex and appeals directly to the physiological system. Adults who get stuck in talk therapy or EMDR - because they are physically too agitated or just completely dissociated - find a nonverbal gateway in the RRP.
What adults often notice:
- Deep, restorative sleep - sometimes for the first time in years
- Relief of gastrointestinal complaints related to stress
- Less chronic muscle tension and pain
- Increased carrying capacity and resilience in daily life
- Return of energy and zest for life after burnout
Suitable for burnout, chronic fatigue (ME/CFS), PDS, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, trauma, anxiety disorders and C-PTSS.

Safety as a foundation
Children often lack the words - and prefrontal development - to articulate emotional pain or dysregulation to articulate it. They express it through their behavior: tantrums, withdrawal, sleep refusal, abdominal pain. The RRP is safely applicable from 18 months of age.
The protocol immediately returns the child's nervous system to the ventral vagal state. The child does not have to do anything. Nothing to talk. Nothing to train. The nervous system is given space to tune in differently.
What parents often notice:
- Less overstimulation and intense emotional reactions
- Better sleep and recovery after school days
- More room for contact, play and connection
- Improved concentration at school
- The gaze softens - the child seems to ‘land’ more’
Appropriate for overstimulation, ASD, ADHD, trauma, anxiety, sleep problems and emotion regulation issues. The role of the parent is central to the course.
Neuroplasticity has no retirement age
The aging process is accompanied by a natural decrease in vagal tone. This leads to decreased heart rate variability, increased blood pressure, systemic inflammation and a greatly reduced ability to recover. Loneliness and social isolation are thereby an immense, sometimes life-threatening stressor.
Research shows that the senile brain retains a high degree of neuroplasticity. The RRP acts as an effective, non-pharmacological intervention that actively trains vagal tonus. By restoring parasympathetic dominance, inflammation is attenuated at the cellular level - without the side effects of heavy medication.
- Relief from chronic pain, rheumatism and osteoarthritis
- Restoring capacity for social connection
- Improved sleep quality and energy levels
- Attenuation of systemic inflammation

Careful, customized and fully supervised
The RRP is not an app you download. It is a clinical intervention that requires care. Every pathway is different - because every nervous system is different.
1. Intake
A comprehensive written intake identifies your situation: medical history, sleep patterns, gut health, previous responses to therapy. This forms the starting point of your personalized journey.
2. Personal listening schedule
Based on your intake, we create a customized listening schedule. For complex situations, we start with microdosing: sometimes literally 1 to 3 minutes. Going slow is faster recovery.
3. Guidance & support
You are not alone. We are easily accessible, always respond within 24 hours - including weekends if needed. In case of overstimulation or questions: we are here.
4. Integration
In addition to listening, you get to know your own nervous system better through polyvagal exercises: resonance breathing, interoceptive scanning, vagal tonus exercises. Thus, recovery anchors into daily life.
We are listening ourselves.
Every day.
For over a year now - not as protocol, but as habit. After a busy work day, when the stimuli have piled up and the head is still full from all that has been. Lie down for a while. Headphones on. And listen.
What we notice again and again: the body lets go of what the head is still holding onto. No willpower is needed. No technique to remember. The nervous system knows what to do - it just needs the right circumstance. That circumstance is this.
We guide clients with the RRP because we know inside out what it does. Not from a textbook - but from daily experience. And that makes all the difference in how we guide: patiently, without haste, precisely because we know how soft and how deep this protocol can work.
“After a busy day, this is for us the stillness that the nervous system needs. Not a meditation you have to sustain. No exercise you have to do well. Just lie down and listen - and feel how the tension naturally subsides.”

What clients themselves say
Each nervous system responds in its own way. Yet the same words return again and again: rest, landing, coming home. Below are some experiences - in the own words of people who have gone through the RRP.
“After the first minute, I cried a lot. It took me back to my babyhood. Very special and intense. I didn't expect that something so simple could go so deep.”
Andrea - RRP
“In many situations I stay more relaxed now - and I feel that physically. The adrenaline doesn't shoot up anymore. I stay much more present. I look forward to listening so much that I relax even before the music starts.”
Nadine - RRP
“My sleep has improved tremendously - I sleep at least six hours every night, often seven to eight. Even for stressful moments, I can now sleep well. My digestion is better. And I feel my body again, instead of being in it as if in an empty space.”
Anonymous - RRP, 5/5
“It's like I have these ‘aha’ moments every day. I'm learning so much about myself and it's helping me build a calmer, more conscious life. Even this e-mail would have been almost impossible for me - but here I am.”
Patricia - RRP
“I wasn't aware of how dark it was in me. Now I notice things that were always there but I never saw. My senses seem to come back online. It feels like awakening.”
Peter - SSP & RRP
“Everything is going well and I really enjoy listening to the RRP. It's like I have these ‘aha’ moments every day - I'm learning so much about myself and it helps me build a calmer, more conscious and purposeful life. Even this email would have been nearly impossible for me, but here I am, asking the questions I need answers to.”
Deborah - RRP
“I feel calmer. Less easily overstimulated. And for the first time in a long time I feel like I'm on the right track again. Going slowly is for my nervous system the better way - and that is exactly what is possible here.”
Baudouin - RRP
“However, I was never able to afford the corresponding treatments financially. I am so happy and grateful that this is different now. Everyone has a right to recovery - I feel that here.”
Ute - RRP
“There are small changes that go very deep. My sleep is much better and there is more space inside. I find that I can now look hard truths straight in the face can look at them without collapsing. That's huge.”
Margaret - RRP
“I went through some of the most stressful moments of my life this past month. I became homeless and lost my safe place. I feel like the RRP and the SSP have have helped me survive what otherwise would have felt unendurable.”
Madeleine - SSP & RRP
