Karuma
Rest for your nervous system. A little bit every day.
Karuma is a relaxing app with short exercises that help your nervous system feel safe and calm more often. No goals, no pressure, no guilt if you miss a day—just a little moment for yourself every day, for example, while you’re having your first cup of coffee.
What You'll Find in Karuma
A daily ritual
Every week, there’s one simple exercise waiting for you that you can tie into something you already do—like your morning coffee. Small enough to stick with, meaningful enough to make a difference.
A First Aid Kit for Tough Times
Do you feel rushed, numb, or overwhelmed? The First Aid Kit immediately gives you an exercise that matches how you're feeling right now. No explanation first—just help.
Understanding How Your Nervous System Works
In this section, you’ll learn in plain language how your autonomic nervous system works, based on Dr. Stephen Porges’ polyvagal theory. Because what you understand feels less scary.
Coming Home to Your Body
A gentle, four-phase program that helps you, step by step, feel safe—and eventually even warm—in your own body again. At your own pace—nothing is mandatory.
Why Karuma Feels Different
Most apps want you to come back. Karuma wants you to feel better. That’s why you won’t find any broken streaks, no red numbers, and no notifications about what you missed here. We only track what you actually did. A missed day doesn’t mean anything—glad you’re back; we’ll just pick up where we left off.
Karuma was developed based on real-world experience: BrainArts supports people with stress and burnout symptoms and uses proven listening programs designed for the nervous system. The app brings that knowledge into your daily life—gently, kindly, and without asking anything of you.
Your data belongs to you
Karuma works without an account. Your personal progress and answers remain on your own phone and are not shared with us. You only create an account if you use an access code from your organization or healthcare provider—and even then, your personal data remains yours.
Who Karuma Is
For anyone who wants to feel more at peace. For those who regularly feel rushed, tired, or overwhelmed. For those recovering from a busy period or burnout. And for those who are simply curious about how the nervous system works.
Why is Karuma free?
That’s a fair question we get asked quite often. Karuma was developed by BrainArts, a practice in Utrecht that helps people cope with stress and burnout. The coaching and listening programs from the practice make it possible to share this knowledge with everyone for free through the app. There’s no catch: no ads, no selling of your data, no obligations. Simply because we believe that peace of mind should be accessible to everyone.
